HOTUS IN VITRO - University of Oxford Botanic Garden - 2007
A permanent commission funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to replace defective glass in the greenhouses at the botanic garden. Pollen and seeds collected from the plants were photographed on a scanning electron microscope and magnified up to X5000 to reveal an abundance of complex ornamental structures and forms. The resulting images were etched onto the panes of glass throughout the greenhouse, the images floating in space in front of a lush leafy backdrop, like oversized microscope slides with the ethereal quality of ice crystals.
